Wiring problems can also cause both headlights to stop working. High beam headlights don't work or low beams don't work. The cause: A burned out bulb, or a problem with the high beam switch or relay. The fix: Replace the bulb, switch, or relay. If just one bulb fails to work in either high beam mode or low beam mode, it may be the bulb.

Test the switch using the multimeter. With the switch connected to both terminals, try activating the switch. If the multimeter shows no continuity or change in readings, you probably need to have the door switch replaced. A bad door switch is the last point of failure affecting the entire interior lights of your car.

I thought I would clean the lenses in the number plate lights on my 2004 A6, so removed and cleaned them inside and out, replaced the bulbs and refitted the lenses. Lights not working as above posts. Thought about a 60 mile round trip to nearest Audi dealer, but then spoke to a local auto-electrician
